Nursing Faculty Receive National Honors

Donna Gates, EdD, RN, associate professor of nursing and holder of the Jane Procter Endowed Chair at the College of Nursing, will be inducted as a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing in November in Washington, DC. Gates has been honored for her outstanding contributions to nursing in the area of workplace violence and occupational health and safety.

Marilyn Sommers, PhD, RN, FAAN, associate dean for research and professor of nursing at the College of Nursing, has been invited to chair the steering committee of the Council for the Advancement of Nursing Science (CANS). She will serve for two years.

Two other nationally prominent College of Nursing faculty members have significant leadership roles in professional organizations: Christine Savage, PhD, RN, associate professor of nursing, is president of the International Nurses Society on Addictions, and Elaine Miller, DNS, RN, professor of nursing, is editor of Rehabilitation Nursing.
