Nearly 800 cancer survivors from the Tristate area celebrated the 15th annual Cancer Survivors Day June 4 aboard the riverboat “Belle of Cincinnati.” The event was presented by the UC Cancer Center, University Hospital and Jewish Hospital.
“This event gives living proof that with early detection and treatment, cancer is survivable,” Mary Fourth, nurse coordinator of the UC Cancer Center says.
“It gives us hope and inspiration to see so many of the survivors with 15-, 30- and even 41-year buttons,” says Tina Sansone, a three-year cancer survivor,
The crowd of survivors, ranging from infants to grandparents, and their guests heard emcee Bill Price of WCPO-TV read proclamations from Cincinnati Mayor Mark Mallory and President George Bush that declared June 4 as National Cancer Survivors Day.
This year’s event was supported by Tri-Health, Mercy Anderson, American Cancer Society, Cancer Family Care, Fort Hamilton Hospital, Dearborn County Hospital, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.
