Doctor, Patient Tackle Purple People Bridge Climb

By Amanda Harper
Published November 2006

When Heather Arrasmith (second from left), 31, went into the hospital to have a pancreas transplant three months ago, she told her surgeon, Amit Tevar, MD, that when she recovered she would take him on the Purple People Bridge Climb as thanks for the great care she received.

On Sept. 30, with support from a team of her family, friends and physicians, she and Tevar climbed 140 feet above the Ohio River and walked 2,760 feet across the bridge that connects Ohio to Kentucky. Arrasmith, of Lebanon, had suffered from advanced diabetes for 20 years.

She says she never realized how bad she felt until she had the surgery. Now that she is diabetes free she can enjoy a more active lifestyle without worrying about constantly testing her glucose levels
