UC Celebrates the Life of Martin Luther King Jr.

Published February 2006

The Academic Health Center celebrated the life of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) on Jan. 13 during its 34th annual MLK Memorial Ceremony and March. Spencer Crew, president of the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, delivered the keynote address, while author and visual artist Annie Ruth served as mistress of ceremonies.

The MLK committee also announced winners of the 2006 MLK scholarships. Heather Cox, Academic Health Center executive director of finance and administration, received a $1,000 award, which will be used to support college coursework, community education and several conferences that focus on advancing intercultural understanding, peaceful conflict resolution and improving interpersonal relations. The other winners were Sykena Jarrett, of LabOne, Della Mundy, of Christ Hospital, and Linda Woods, of University Hospital.
