College of Nursing and UH Partner in Co-op Program

Published January 2005

The College of Nursing and University Hospital are partnering in a new nursing co-op program that will help nursing students offset tuition and living expenses.

The on-the-job experience will also encourage nursing co-ops to establish professional contacts and learn what options there are in their field, says Shirley Alsup, RN, director of the program.

"This program lets them do everything the RN does, and helps develop their critical-thinking skills, leadership, time management and professionalism," says Alsup."It helps meet the needs of the student as well as benefiting the hospital.

"It truly is a win-win program, for which only students who have demonstrated consistently high achievement levels are considered," Alsup says.
