MSB-CARE/Crawley Building Takes Shape

By Katie Pence
Published July 2007

Changes outside the Medical Sciences Building (MSB) and CARE/Crawley Building will be more visible during the second half of the year as several tasks within the first phase of the project will finally be completed.

Gregory Braswell, director for planning at the Academic Health Center, says by the end of the year the bridge structures between the two buildings should be completed in full, landscaping work around the CARE/Crawley Building should be finished and both buildings should be fully enclosed.

But the exterior work on the buildings isn't the only thing that is coming along rapidly. In addition, Braswell says the terrazzo floor in the MSB is to be finished, as well as case work inside the labs, the MSB library and study spaces.

"We are on track for the construction to be completed by summer of next year," he says.
Outdoor work to be completed by the end of the year includes:

           Enclosure of both buildings

           Bridge structures

Landscaping outside of the CARE/Crawley Building

Indoor work to be completed by the end of the year includes:

           Terrazzo floor inside the MSB

           Case work in labs

           MSB library

           Student study areas

The project is being supported by state and federal funding, gifts and bond financing.
