Save the Date—2008 Showcase UC
UC will showcase cutting-edge technologies and community and economic development partnerships that are making a difference during UC Showcase 2008. The event—which will run parallel to the graduate student poster forum—will begin with a VIP reception on Thursday, March 6. The event will be opened up to a broad audience Friday, March 7. Calls for demonstrations and exhibits will begin in October.
Teaching Excellence Awards
The College of Medicine has announced its 2006–07 excellence in teaching awards with the presentation of the Gold and Silver Apple Awards.
The current second-year class selected D.J. Lowrie, PhD, of cell biology, for the Gold Apple, and Bruce Giffin, PhD, and James Gross, PhD, both of cell biology, for Silver Apples. The current third-year class awarded John Quinlan, MD, neurology, the Gold Apple and Edward Choi, PhD, microbiology, and Laura Wexler, MD, cardiology, Silver Apples. The graduating class selected David Fischer, MD, surgery, for the Gold Apple, and Thomas deHoop, MD, obstetrics and gynecology, and Richard Stevenson, MD, surgery, for Silver Apples.
The apple awards recognize professors who had the most impact on a student’s medical career—and life path—by serving as excellent instructors and mentors.
Mini Medical College Held This Month
College of Medicine faculty will share the latest trends in modern medicine and disease prevention during UC’s annual Mini Medical College to be held the first four Tuesdays in October. The health series, designed for the general public, will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Medical Sciences Building. Each “class” will include two lectures by college faculty. The fee is $69.
