UC Faculty, Alumni Get Nod as Cincinnati’s ‘Top Docs’ UC was well represented in the latest edition of Cincinnati Magazine’s “Top Doctors.” Out of the 571 physicians on the list, 145 doctors hold UC faculty appointments and 197 are graduates of the UC College of Medicine. In addition, 244 received post-graduate training at the College of Medicine/UC Health University Hospital. In total 70 percent of physicians listed have an affiliation with UC. Department Earns Nearly $5 Million for Renovations UC’s environmental health department has received a $5 million grant from the National Institutes of Health to fund extensive renovations in the Kettering Laboratory research complex. Kettering Laboratory is a 93,000-square-foot facility that has four wings. Renovations will begin this summer and continue through 2014. Part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, this new funding represents one of the largest single grants and first research facility renovation-focused award to UC from the federal economic stimulus package.
Nominate a Nurse for Nightingale Awards The College of Nursing is accepting nominations for the 18th annual Florence Nightingale Awards for Excellence in Nursing. Nominations can be submitted from patients, family and friends, colleagues, physicians and other health care workers. The awards recognize registered nurses for their contributions to direct patient care. Board of Advisors award winners will receive $1,000 and a commemorative award. Dean’s award winners will receive $400. Nominations are due by Friday, March 5. For more information, visit nursing.uc.edu.
Join UC Health’s Heart Mini Marathon Teams UC Health University Hospital is a sponsor of the 2010 Walmart Mini Marathon and Heart Walk, scheduled for Sunday, March 28, in downtown Cincinnati.The day’s events include the 15-kilometer Heart Mini Marathon, the 5-kilometer HeartRun, the 2-kilometer Kids Mini-MaraFun, the 5-kilometer and 10-kilometer HeartWalk and the 1K Steps for Stroke Walk. A fitness expo will be held Saturday, March 27, at the Duke Energy Center.
